GET TO KNOW THE AM PROJECT.
The AM Project is a San Antonio nonprofit founded in 2015 by Louis Cardenas and a group of artists and educators who believe young people need more creative ways to learn, grow, and see what is possible.
Through music, DJing, digital art, creative writing, and creative technology, AM helps students build confidence, find their voice, and develop skills they can use in school, work, and life.
Our mission is simple: empower youth through hands-on creative learning that connects art, music, education, and future-ready opportunity.
Who We Are.
AM programs are led by working creative professionals, DJs, teaching artists, mentors, and youth leaders who know how to make learning active, relevant, and engaging.
Our team brings real-world experience into schools, community programs, camps, events, and workshops so students can learn by creating, practicing, collaborating, performing, and participating.
WHAT STUDENTS BUILD:
AM programs give students a creative outlet while helping them strengthen the skills that support learning, confidence, leadership, and real-world growth.
-
Students need space to create, not just consume. AM gives young people hands-on ways to explore music, DJing, digital art, writing, storytelling, rhythm, and technology.
Through creative projects, students learn how to turn ideas into something they can hear, see, share, and perform.
-
Description HereMany students have something to say but need the right environment to say it. AM uses music and creative technology to help students build confidence, self-expression, and a stronger sense of identity.
As students practice, create, and share their work, they begin to see themselves as capable creators, leaders, and contributors.
-
AM uses music, lyrics, rhythm, storytelling, and creative writing to make literacy more engaging and accessible.
Students may write lyrics, reflections, raps, hooks, artist statements, scripts, or project descriptions while strengthening vocabulary, structure, communication, and voice.
This is not traditional tutoring. It is creative learning that can support reading, writing, and school engagement in a way students can connect with.
-
Creative work teaches students how to listen, take turns, solve problems, give feedback, receive feedback, and complete something together.
In AM programs, students practice responsibility, collaboration, public presentation, and leadership through real creative projects, group work, performances, and hands-on experiences.
-
AM connects creativity to real-world skills students can use beyond the classroom.
Students explore music production, digital tools, event technology, design, media, performance, entrepreneurship, and creative careers while building problem-solving, focus, communication, and portfolio-ready experience.
For schools and youth partners, AM programs can support enrichment, electives, career exploration, CCMR-aligned goals, and Future Ready learning.
-
Creative learning can support social-emotional learning, also known as SEL, by giving students positive ways to express themselves, work with others, manage frustration, and feel seen.
AM is not a clinical or therapeutic provider. But our programs can support confidence, connection, self-expression, reflection, and positive youth development through music, art, and hands-on creative practice.
-
AM is rooted in San Antonio and built around connection.
Students learn alongside artists, mentors, peers, schools, families, nonprofits, and community partners. They are not just learning a creative skill. They are becoming part of a community that values their voice, their growth, and their future.
what we solve.
1: Students need more engaging creative outlets.
2: Schools need meaningful enrichment.
3: Communities need youth programs that build confidence, skills, and connection.
At the same time, many schools and youth-serving organizations are being asked to improve student outcomes with limited budgets, limited staff, and limited time.
The AM Project helps partners do more with less by bringing ready-to-use creative curriculum and hands-on programs in music, DJing, digital art, creative writing, arts integration, reading and writing through music, SEL/wellness support, and future-ready learning.
AM programs can support San Antonio schools, nonprofits, community organizations, homeschool groups, and youth programs — with curriculum and program options that can also serve schools beyond San Antonio.
